Build the Baby’s Bank – Start a Savings Account
Supplies: Spare Change or bills, baby bottle or piggy bank

Thee ideas to help the new baby start their first savings account were submitted by two of our visitors. If you want a high yielding savings account, check out Capital One, Ally, and Synchrony Bank.

Build the Bank Activities
1. You may want to tell guests to bring a few dollars to the baby shower for a baby shower savings account activity.

Give everyone a name tag to wear when they arrive. On the name tag you put names of different baby items like: bib, baby bottle, crib, stroller, formula, etc… or spice it up and give names like Paci, Stroller Girl, Bibby, Bottles…

During the shower everyone must call everyone by their new name rather than their real name. Whoever calls the person by her or his real name instead of the baby item name, has to put .50 cents of a dollar in the bank per infraction.

At the end of the shower the money is given to the mom to start the babies first savings account and if this is a big shower it can add up to be a great start.

2. Baby’s First Bank Activity
Before the shower ask everyone to bring some spare change. At the shower, I passed around a plastic baby bottle or you could bring a piggy bank and everyone put in their spare change out of their pockets or purses.

As the bottle gets passed around, have each guest offer a piece of money saving advice or tips for the new mother. This can range from Click Coupons and put all the money saved into a savings account to start an IRA to Betty’s Country store on 5th Street has the best prices on baby food.

After everyone have offered some financial tips, the money and bottle were given to the new mom to start the baby a savings account. It was a fun little thing for the mom to bring home.

3. Winner Takes ALL
In this game, a piggy bank is brought to the shower and guests are encouraged to add loose change and bills to the piggy bank.

Every guest that adds funds to the piggy bank is given a Guess Card. Once everyone has thrown in change and fund, let the guest know that they are to use their Guess Cards to guess how much is in the piggy bank right now.

Tell the guests to place guesses in a basket or box, and the winner take ALL!

Now the game host leaves the room to count the money in the bank and once the return they go through the Guess Cards and select the winner.

Now announce the Winner and Congratulations – The Winner takes ALL – and at this point you pull out a bottle of ALL laundry detergent and hand it to the winner. And then add – But the Baby gets the Money! to start their first savings account.
