Diaper or No Diaper Game
This is a great baby shower game, similar in concept to the game show “Deal or No Deal”. To play this game you need 20 diapers, 20 prize ideas of varying greatness, poster board and a marker and a group of ten or more works well.
First make a list of your twenty prizes. An example might include:
1. bottle
2. bib
3. homemade bread
4. ice cream gift certificate
5. …etc.
18. Dinner delivered, homemade cake, girls night out
19. House cleaning, 3 dinners, picnic lunch, homemade cake
20. House cleaning, week of dinners, 3 nights babysitting, fruit basket
Then write the prizes on a poster board (don’t number them). Put them in order of greatness with the smallest prize first and the greatest prize at the bottom of the list.
Write each prize on a 3x5 index card and put it inside a diaper (newborns work well).
Mix up the diapers and then label each one with a big black number on the front. You don’t want to know what prize is in each diaper.
Give each guest a couple of diapers to hold during the game. |

The guest of honor then chooses one diaper that she hopes is the winning diaper and she holds onto it. She doesn’t open it yet.
Now what she does is picks five diapers to see what prizes are not in her diaper (she is not winning these items). She will pick a number and the person holding that diaper will open it and read the prize. Then that prize will be crossed off the poster board.
Assign a group of people to be the banker. After five diapers are opened, the bankers get together and make an offer to buy the diaper that the guest of honor is holding. The offer will be less than the greatest prize but more than the least prize available. It can even be a combo of different prizes together.
The guest of honor will say deal or no deal, depending on the offer. Normally early in the game, she will say no deal.
Then she opens 4 more diapers and then the bankers make an offer.
If she says no deal then…
She opens 4 more diapers and then the bankers make an offer.
If she says no deal then…
She opens 3 more diapers and then the banker makes another offer.
If she says no deal then…
She opens 2 more and then the banker makes another offer.
If she says no deal then…
She opens 1 more and then the banker makes another offer.
If she says no deal then…
She opens 1 more and then the banker makes another offer.
If she says no deal then…
If she stays in the game until there are only 2 diapers left (hers and 1 other) she has the option to trade cases or keep her diaper and the prize inside that diaper.
Most likely, she will make a deal while there are still a few diapers left in the game.
She wins whatever deal she makes and then opens her diaper to see if that was a good deal or not.
To get the most out of this game, ask you attendees to volunteer time gifts etc… so that you have a variety of gifts and people to commit to giving the gift or service if she gets the big prize.
Add some fun for the diaper holders, before you assign the numbers randomly slide 3 or 4 mystery gifts – these could be denoted by a star. This way the person who opens the diaper has a chance to win a small gift as well. This makes the game a little more exciting and guests work to have their numbers picked.
Thanks, Amy D.
